چکیده

Background Changes in the shear plantar soft tissue properties with diabetes likely play a role in plantar ulceration, yet little is known about these characteristics. We recently conducted in vitro shear tests on specimens previously tested in compression to characterize the tissue under both these loading modes. However, previously tested specimens might not provide representative mechanical properties as prior testing may have altered the tissue. The purpose of this study was to test the effect of prior compression testing on the plantar soft tissue shear and compressive properties using paired specimens in a twopart study.

The shear mechanical properties of diabetic and non-diabetic plantar soft tissue.

Changes in the plantar soft tissue shear properties may contribute to ulceration in diabetic patients, however, little is known about these shear parameters. This study examines the elastic and viscoelastic shear behavior of both diabetic and non-diabetic plantar tissue. Previously compression tested plantar tissue specimens (n=54) at six relevant plantar locations (hallux, first, third, and fi...

Buckling and failure characteristics of slender web I-column girders under interactive compression and shear

Geometric and material nonlinear behavior of slender webs in I-column girders having stocky flanges under the action of combined lateral and axial loads is investigated. Interaction curves corresponding to the application of compressive and shear loads at buckling and ultimate stages for both web plates and column sections are plotted. In addition, the effects of flange and web slenderness rati...

Measurement of Nonlinear-elastic Properties of Skin and Subcutaneous Tissues via Unconfined Compression Tests

INTRODUCTION Knowledge of the nonlinear-elastic properties of soft tissues is essential for the development of reliable finite element models for biological systems. The compressive nonlinear-elastic properties of soft tissues are usually determined using unconfined compression tests. To determine the nonlinearelastic behavior of skin and subcutaneous tissues using a conventional approach, the ...

Effect of normal compression on the shear modulus of soft tissue in rheological measurements.

While the effect of normal compression on the measured shear material properties of viscoelastic solids has been already acknowledged in rheological studies in the literature, to our knowledge, no systematic study has been conducted to investigate this effect in detail to date. In this study, we perform two sets of experiments to investigate the effect of normal strain and strain rate on the dy...

Investigating the Effect of Specimen Diameter Size on Uniaxial Compressive Strength and Elastic Properties of Travertines

Uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and elastic properties of rocks play a major and vital role for the design of any engineering structure. The specimen diameter size is one of the main factors that influencing on UCS, elasticity modulus and Poisson’s ratio (E and υ). Here, an attempt has been made to investigate the effect of specimen diameter size on UCS, E and υ. Moreover, we studied the co...
